ANNA POGOSSOVA

“When it comes to visual storytelling, objects let me communicate things without saying them, that’s why I love working with them so much,” says photographer and artist Anna Pogossova, who lensed our crystalware story (page 34) inspired by a nostalgia for 1970s and ’80s advertising. Counting the Spanish painter Remedios Varo and French artist Louise Bourgeois as enduring influences, Pogossova says her own creative practices “are in conversation with each other”, and her conceptual style of still-life photography stems from an interest in material culture, and “why we make certain things and why they feel intuitive”. Fashion and design, she believes, “are actually both very much part of this same world, as direct expressions of desire; they are highly symbolic.”
